Strucure of RPs

At DISI, theoretical and applied research always seek the right balance. Our research is organized in interrelated dimensions.

The Research Programmes (RPs) are the synthesis of the first two dimensions: methodological research (where theory is produced and disseminated with scientific publications) and technological areas (where complementary methodologies meet to create application-oriented technologies). The RPs define the strategic research plan of the department.

Each RP is economically autonomous, self-managing, and has the critical mass to pursue its research objectives. The Research Programmes last three years and are renewable.Application Labs

The third dimension is represented by Application Labs (ALs). ALs are joint research infrastructures specifically targeted at a vertical application field. In the ALs the department cooperates with Industry, Research Centres, and End-Users to demonstrate the feasibility of advanced solutions and practise new models for technology transfer. ALs covers multi-disciplinary areas involving both various ICT fields, and disciplines in completely different areas such as economics, engineering, and human sciences.

With the goal of developing synergies with other research institutions, DISI and the University of Trento are founding members and participants in the management of research centres located in Trentino, including Create-Net Association, Graphitech Foundation, and CoSBI Research Center. DISI at Trento University is one of the leaders in research and development in the Information and Communication Technology sector on the Italian and European level.
