Intro

I am a member of faculty in the Information Engineering and Computer Science Department (DISI), at the University of Trento.

My group has developed expertise on the problems of data series management, indexing, and mining, including streaming and uncertain data series. We have worked with data coming from several diverse domains, such as neuroscience, home networks, and road tunnels. We have developed iSAX2+, the state of the art data series index that supports bulk loading, as well as DSStat, a toolset to clean/visualize/calculate statistics for data-series datasets.

I am Director of dbTrento (the Data and Information Management Group of DISI), General Chair for VLDB 2013 (the premier international conference on very large databases), Vice-Chair of DKE (the Data and Knowledge Engineering Research Area of Trento Rise, bringing together more than 85 faculty, research staff, and student members), and Coordinator of DKM (the Data And Knowledge Management Research Area in DISI).

I am a founding member of the Event Processing Technical Society, and have been a member of the IBM Academy of Technology Study on Event Processing. I serve on the editorial boards and program committees of several international journals and conferences in the areas of data management and data mining. I have received the IBM Shared University Research Award, three Best Paper awards in international conferences (PERCOM 2012, ICDE 2010, ADAPTIVE 2009), and authored eight US Patents, three of which are part of commercial systems.

Before joining the University of Trento, I worked at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, and at the University of California at Riverside. I have also held visiting researcher positions at the National University of Singapore, Microsoft Research, and the IBM Almaden Research Center.

I received my BSc degree from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and then received the MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Toronto, Canada.

Trivium: my Erdos Number is 3.
